Calsol
5 and 6 Series, Nonstaining Naphthenic Oils
When
the highest levels of color stability, oxidation and aging
resistance are required, the Calsol 5 and 6 Oils are a logical
choice.
Calsol 5 and 6 Series Process Oils are light colored, nonstaining
naphthenic oils. They combine excellent initial color and
color stability with intermediate levels of aromatic and naphthenic
molecular structure. This combination provides good compatibility
with unsaturated synthetic polymers at the oil loading used
in critical color applications. The higher levels of refining
applied here provide better resistance to aging and color
degradation as evidenced by the very low levels of polar compounds,
measured by ASTM D-2007 and the very low values of UV absorptivity
measured by ASTM D-2008. The oil components that absorb ultraviolet
light at 260 nm are aromatic compounds that have been shown
to contribute significantly to color shifts, oxidation, failure
on aging and UV instability when exposed to light. In addition,
the naphthenic character of the Calsol 5 and 6 Series Oils
makes them an ideal choice whenever the balance of hardness
and color stability is critical. For example: thermoplastics,
radial and styrene block.
